Mainly, lux is about lighting, and specifically lightshades. If you’ve ever tried finding just the right shade for a specific lamp or pendant or to find the colour which perfectly complements your room, you may know that the choice can often be a bit limited.
We work with individual customers and interior designers to ensure the perfect fit. This means that you can have whatever size, shape, or style you want, made by hand to your specific requirements. We do keep a range of ready-made shades in stock, but as individual tastes and requirements vary so much, most of what we do is made to order.
How does it work? We keep an ever-changing stock of fabrics which you can choose from. These are mainly end-of roll or discontinued fabrics, which keeps the cost down but also avoids wastage as these beautiful fabrics can otherwise end up in landfill. These are mostly heavier weight curtain/upholstery fabrics, which are better for rigid shades (shades which are constructed with an adhesive PVC backing, with the fabric or paper fixed on).
Or, you can choose your own fabric, either as part of a bigger project like curtains, blinds or upholstery, or simply as a one-off. We keep a small range of fabric swatch books in store and we’re always happy to work with your own fabric as well if you prefer to supply yourself.
We also do soft shades, which work best in lighter-weight fabrics. These are more traditionally made, tailored shades which are hand sewn, usually with a lining.
